The present Rolex Day-Date reference 18078, dating to 1981, is an exceptionally attractive and uncommon example of Rolex’s flagship model, distinguished by its rare brown vignette tritium dial and striking bark-finished case details. The 18K yellow-gold case remains in excellent and thick condition, showing only light wear consistent with careful use over the years. The distinctive bark finish applied to both the bezel and the centre links of the President bracelet is beautifully preserved, giving the watch a unique texture and unmistakable vintage character. The highlight of this example is undoubtedly its rare brown vignette dial, preserved in excellent condition. The rich gradient effect, fading from a lighter brown centre to a darker outer edge, creates exceptional depth and elegance. The tritium luminous plots remain intact, with the sole exception of the 11 o’clock marker, while the original tritium hands match beautifully. The original President bracelet remains in outstanding condition and shows virtually no stretch, a particularly desirable feature for a Day-Date of this vintage. The clasp bears the code F, consistent with the production period. While no service history accompanies the watch, it is in excellent running condition at the time of cataloguing.
