A beautiful example of the Rolex Submariner reference 5513, dating from 1964 and featuring its highly attractive original gilt tritium dial. The case is in excellent condition, having recently been polished and showing only very light wear from use. Both the serial and reference numbers between the lugs remain crisp and well defined, with a 1.08XXXX serial number, while the inside caseback is correctly stamped III.64. The original gilt dial is in excellent condition and has developed particularly attractive character over time, with the surface gradually turning slightly matte and showing the very early beginnings of a subtle spider effect with fine hairline cracking. The tritium luminous plots and matching hands react consistently under UV light. The watch is fitted with a later black bezel insert dating from the 1990s, which remains in excellent condition. Its reference 9315 folded Oyster bracelet with 380 end links shows moderate stretch from use, while the clasp is without a date stamp. Inside, the Rolex calibre 1530 movement has been freshly serviced by our watchmaker and is running very well. A particularly charming early Submariner, combining a beautiful gilt dial, well-preserved case details and the unmistakable character of a 1960s vintage Rolex.
