The present Rolex Submariner reference 5513 “Maxi MkII”, dating to circa 1978, is a highly attractive and honest example of one of the most collectible late-production matte dial Submariners. Coming from the original owner in Lausanne, the watch benefits from particularly appealing provenance and careful long-term ownership. The stainless-steel case remains in excellent overall condition and has just been lightly polished by our watchmaker, preserving strong proportions and crisp lines while maintaining the watch’s authentic vintage character. The highlight of this example is its beautiful and clean original Maxi MkII dial, preserved in excellent condition. The enlarged luminous plots characteristic of the “Maxi” configuration give the watch a stronger visual presence and are especially appreciated by collectors. The tritium hands match perfectly, creating a harmonious and highly attractive appearance. The watch is fitted with a later black bezel insert from the early 1990s, itself preserved in excellent condition and blending naturally with the overall aesthetic of the watch. The original Oyster bracelet reference 93150 with 580 endlinks remains in excellent condition and shows only light stretch consistent with careful use over time. The clasp bears the code VD, and the Rolex coronet on the clasp has been naturally polished down through decades of wear, now remaining only faintly visible—an honest detail often encountered on well-preserved vintage Rolex sports watches. While no service history accompanies the watch, it is functioning perfectly at the time of cataloguing.
